Yoga at LANPT offers classes for all
levels of fitness and skill.

"Learn to listen to the voice within yourself.  Your body and mind will become one,
and you will realize the unity of all things."
Dogen Zenji

Chair Yoga
This class is for students with physical conditions that limit movement including spinal pain, weakness, arthritis, heart problems, etc. We will be using chairs in this class. If you cannot get up and down from the floor, this is the class for you. Bring your walkers and your canes, your enthusiasm and what energy you can muster to this class.

Gentle Yoga
This class is designed for newcomers to yoga and for beginning students. You will need to be able to get onto the floor. We will incorporate warm-ups, gentle poses and breathwork to increase your flexibility and reduce stress. This class is appropriate for those with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and other limiting illnesses or injuries.

Yoga 1
This class introduces beginning and continuing students to the fundamental practices of yoga including breathwork, focus, and meditation. We will emphasize the balance between strength and flexibility, work on conditioning and develop self-awareness skills you will be able to use off the yoga mat.  Each class will begin with a short meditation.

Tai Chi
This ancient Chinese movement discipline integrates mind, body and spirit through gentle exercise. Often called meditation in motion, students benefit from increased balance, reduced stress, increased lung capacity and improved sleep, to name a few. No special clothing or equipment is required.  This class is appropriate for all ages.  Because the movements being taught will build on the previous instruction, this class is not appropriate as a drop-in.

Svaroopa® Yoga
Svaroopa® style yoga focuses on releasing tensions at the core of the body in the muscles that attach to the spine.  The premise is, when the spine is open, all the muscles of the body are stronger and more flexible.  This relable, progressive improvement in muscle function makes Svaroopa® style yoga excellent for injury recovery and prevention.  Students should be able to get down on the floor.  Chairs are available and can can be employed to assist with getting up and down.  Mats, blankets and blocks are also provided to make poses comfortable and accessible.  The series of two chair poses and two floor poses is combined with other poses, breathwork and guided awareness for a deeply relaxing 1 1/2 hour class that will dramatically reduce pain, increase flexibility and help put you in touch with the bliss that is your natural state of being.

"Let the Truth flash forth and then hold on to it and contemplate it.  In this way, instead of living in your mental projections, you will learn to live in the experiences of the Truth."  Gurumayi Chidvilasananda
Yoga 1 / 2
This class is for those who want to bring focus into their afternoons with a routine of stretches, poses, breathwork and relaxation. Get the boost you need and feel good for the rest of the day.  This class will challenge you to reach for endurance and presence of mind.  A foundation of yoga poses is advised.

Teaching Styles
Anusara
Developed by John Friend, Anusara yoga combines an elegant set of alignment principles with a heart-oriented Tantric philosophy. In Sanskrit, the word anusara means “to flow with Grace.” We honor our own expression of divinity through the practice of yoga recognizing the limitations and abilities of each student. We discover our own true nature with an open heart and a sense of humor.

Vinyasa
Vinyasa is a flowing sequence of postures coordinated with the movements of the breath. The series progresses in a logical manner and helps to cultivate awareness of linking each movement to the next. Vinyasa is an enjoyable system that strengthens, tones and cleanses the body while relaxing the mind.

Svaroopa® Yoga
Svaroopa® yoga offers techniques for opening your body to find your Self.  The resulting ease extends beyond your body, into mind and even spirit.  All this happens without sweat or strain because Svaroopa® yoga is not exercise.  It is a scientific maximization of the body's natural capacities.  The focus of every class ia a core opening achieved by releasing tensions in the deepest layers of the body.  Svaroopa® yoga takes a radically different approach -- it meets your body where it is, just the way it is, right now.

Tai Chi Chuan
This is an ancient chinese martial art that develops internal strength, endurance, balance, and calm.  Known as a "soft" martial art, Tai Chi has been described as meditation in motion.  You will learn a sequence of standing postures and movements done at a slow pace that will bring about an improved focus, quieter mind and more peaceful spirit.  Tai Chi is practiced by millions of chinese who maintain their health and vitality into old age because of its benefits.  If you have balance issues, endurance issues, or a frenzied lifestyle,  Tai Chi is for you.
